Our life with Mr Gurdjieff, Olga and Thomas de Hartmann
This is the story of the years that the Russian composer Thomas de Hartmann and his wife Olga de Hartmann spent with G.I. Gurdjieff. Gurdjieff first came to wide public notice in Europe in the 1920's. But in certain circles his reputation was already legendary, for many people were attracted to a doctrine that aimed to 'destroy existing values' in the service of self-realization. The de Hartmanns met him in Russia in 1917.
Following him from Petrograd to Paris, over the Caucasus, they endured war and revolution, privation and illness, but never wavered in their devotion to his teaching. After de Hartmann's death, Olga de Hartmann completed this book, a rich personal evocation of what it meant to be Gurdjieff's pupil.
